Morgan Contractors is an established paving and striping contractor serving the Kansas City metro and surrounding region. We bid and build parking lots, roads and site work: asphalt paving, sealcoating, patching and pavement markings. Our longtime estimator is retiring, and we’re looking for an experienced estimator to take over our bidding. This is a key role with a direct line to ownership and a real impact on the jobs we win.

This is a full-time, in-office position in Belton, MO. Relocation is not provided.

What you’ll do

• Read and interpret blueprints, site plans and specifications to perform accurate quantity takeoffs
• Prepare complete, accurate bids for asphalt paving, sealcoating, pavement markings and related work
• Build unit costs using labor, equipment and material rates and our production history
• Serve as a main point of contact for customers, GCs and agencies from bid through award
• Track public and private bid opportunities, including municipal and GC-led projects
• Request and review supplier and subcontractor quotes
• Prepare bid documents, bond forms and DBE requirements on public work
• Price change orders and support project managers after award
• Review estimates against actual job costs to improve future bids
• Help train and develop future estimating staff

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years estimating asphalt paving, pavement markings or heavy civil work
• Expert at reading and interpreting blueprints, site plans and specifications
• Strong math skills: area, volume, tonnage and unit-cost calculations done quickly and accurately
• Excellent customer communication, with the ability to build relationships with GCs, owners and agencies by phone, email and in person
• Experience with public bidding, including prevailing wage and Davis-Bacon projects
• Working knowledge of MUTCD standards, marking materials (paint, thermoplastic, MMA) and asphalt quantities
• Organized, detail-oriented and dependable on bid deadlines
• Existing relationships with KC-area GCs, agencies and suppliers are a plus
